High School Art lesson: Cardboard Perspective Paintings // Art I


Medium: Tempera Paint
Time: 1 week
Grade: 9-12  Art II: Intermediate Art
Objective: Understand and Explore 3 pt perspective. Design an architectural composition using cardboard painting technique, and complementary colors
Materials: Paper, Ruler, Pencil, tempera paint, paint tray {aluminum or plastic] cardboard strips, large brush

This lesson introduces student to three point perspective while exploring the use of various mediums & techniques {Drawing, Painting}

See STEPS below.

1. Prep canvas with tempera paint and large brush2. Create 3 point drawing using ruler and vanishing points.
3. Transfer drawing onto painted paper using cardboard. {requiring students to use cardboard instead of a brush, students will be less concerned about the precision of the drawing transfer, creating a loose, textured results.]
4. Add details, highlights {with white paint} and a few "pops of color"
5. More black can be added at the end*
